Making Salon Waste History
Sustainable Salons is a social enterprise that helps its salon members reduce their impact on the planet and invest in local communities.
We are proud to call ourselves a sustainable salon and divert salon waste away from the landfill including hair, chemicals, foils, plastics, metals and containers.
The day to day running of a hairdressing salon can put a substantial footprint on our environment…water usage, chemical waste, renewable resources waste like foils and tint tubes all add up, especially when you consider how many hairdressing salons there are. Due to our involvement in this program we are now proud to say that over 90% of our waste is recycled! Even the hair we cut is used in booms to soak up oil spills in the ocean. It really is a super cool program.
Funds created as a result of selling used foil, tint tubes and paper are donated to Ozharvest for every $1 donated these guys provide 2 meals to the homeless. They are incredible!
In addition – as if there could be anymore…Sustainable Salons are also linked to Variety Hair with Heart program, We donate your ponytails to kids, and now adults, with medical conditions such as alopecia or cancer.
To support the salon being sustainable a no obligation “green fee” of $2.00 is charged each visit and is used towards helping us to create a better environment and look after others that are less fortunate.
For hair colour we use O&M product formulas which are ammonia free and use active natural extracts and minerals, including native Australian ingredients like Lilly Pilly, Banksia Flower, Quandong, Tasmanian Sea Kelp and Davidson Plum, as well as quality essential oils that deliver real benefits. The formulas provide equal coverage to well-known premium colour brands but avoid harsh chemicals that can harm the you and our hairdressers. The scalp absorbs 60% more of chemicals than other parts of your body so we want to ensure you use the most natural products possible helping you feel comfortable, confident and most importantly leave with healthy hair.

Best hair salon in Sydney! Absolutely LOVE my first balayage and cut. Staff are hair colour experts very knowledgeable, helpful and patient. Belinda and her team are so friendly you are immediately put at ease to enjoy a truly indulgent hair experience – complete with yummy champagne! Highly recommend and will definitely be back.

I moved to Manly recently and wanted to find a new hairdresser. I went to Cranium Hair and would highly recommend their service. I needed help with the process of growing out/covering up my balayage. The staff were super lovely and welcoming from great coffee to fun conversations. Dee was the stylist who worked on my hair, she is very talented and skilled—implementing perfectly what I wanted into the final product. She was also very focused to detail in getting all split ends without loosing length.
